SAP Calculation

SAP Calculation is the shortened form of Standard Assessment Procedure and is used to assess a dwellings energy performance.

A SAP Calculation determines how much energy a dwelling will consume in a year while delivering a defined level of comfort and service provision. Related factors such as fuel costs and emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are determined from the SAP Calculation.

As part of the building warrant process for a new build domestic property, Dwelling Emission Rate (DER) and Target Emission Rate (TER) calculations require to be submitted to building control in order to provide compliance with Section 6 of the latest Scottish Technical Standards. Undertaking a SAP Calculation well in advance of the building warrant submission is advisable and will allow the energy efficiency of the dwelling to be considered during the early stage of design. The SAP Calculation may also identify factors that will influence the external appearance of a house such as the inclusion of solar / PV panels or an external flue serving a wood burning stove. These could lead to important considerations or amendments for your planning application.

A full SAP Calculation will be undertaken by an accredited Energy Assessor using the latest Design SAP 2012 software provided by Elmhurst Energy. The SAP calculation ultimately leads to the production of a new build EPC upon completion of the house.
