A U-value is a measure of heat loss and reflects the amount of heat lost per square metre of material (for example wall, roof, floor etc.) U-values measure how effective a material is as an insulator. The lower the U-value, the better the material is as a heat insulator. We can provide U-value calculations for all elements of the building thermal envelope tailored to ensure best use of modern insulation materials including air tightness membranes. Early and carefully considered U-value calculations for external elements such as walls and roofs can help dramatically reduce heat loss through the fabric of the building and ultimately reduce whole house running costs. The careful specification of materials at this stage is also important to help reduce overall costs during construction.
